Feeding Time
This young colony loves them some food. In this video, I placed some syrup nearby and you’ll see how fast they go after it once a forager returns with the good news. Enjoy!

Hey there PTAntFan, nice little blog you got setup here (and I’ve seen you posting some on the forms). I see its been about 6 months since you have last updated, are your ant farms still doing well?
I’m a local LA dude (LAX area) and I’ve been going through a ton of surgeries unfortunately confining me to the couch. With a thirst for knowledge, I’m surrounding myself with things to keep me stimulated and ant farms just happen to be one of my new areas of research.
I have a biology degree and experience performing research. So I’m excited to learn about ant society and to setup an interesting habitat for them.
If your farms are in fact still running, I have a couple questions for you. Also, as you know, not only is it the wrong season to go queen hunting, but my lack of mobility also has put a damper on things. I’m finding it tough to find people to help me go ant hunting, haha. If your farms are setup and active, would you have a spare queen?
Just thought I’d ask, I’m surprised there’s not more LA locals into this hobby.
Anyway, good luck and hope things are still working for ya!

Hi Paul,
There was a bit of disaster with that colony recently. It had grown wonderfully to probably 50 or more ants and then I believe there was either not enough moisture or a sudden temperature change one night and I lost 90% of them, but not the queen. She survives and I am hopeful she can recover her colony this Spring and Summer.
There are probably a lot of folks in LA interested, we just aren’t connected. You might think about strarting a MeetUp group on meetup.com. I would join.
I do not have a spare queen, but if I am successful this Spring, I will happily share. Let’s stay in touch through the blog.
